I have a few macs that need new OSs. I've looked online, and there seems to be a few for download of Mac OS 8, but not really 7. I'm specifically looking for 7.5.5. Did this ever come out as a full ISO? Is the win world ISO image safe?
Yes those are all the parts to 7.5.3 but you have to put them all on a drive and it expands as a single image which can be a little tricky if you haven't done it before. Easier would be getting a cd image like the one I posted.
Please post an update when you get it running. I've not used 7 since 8.1 came out. Actually, I only use OS9 for games and a few older FilemakerPro 5 databases I recently discovered on some zips.
Perhaps a little more straightforward option, Macintosh Garden has different CD/diskette images for different versions of the OS, and they will often have preload images for different systems.
The legacy CDs were really meant for shops that might be servicing somewhere between "several dozens" and "a few hundred" customer systems each mongh and might need to install different software versions on them. Neat to have, but not really any more practical than just using a retail 7.6.1 CD on most 68k and early PPC Macs.
That said, I'm also interested in what happens with that image.
I would say it's far more practical than a single release cd. I usually like to install the original OS on whichever machine I'm on so I might need 7.0.1 one minute then 7.5.3 or 7.6.1 the next. Having everything up to OS 8 on one cd is well worth it.
