Most likely a bad cap that needs replaced in the sound circuitry. They notoriously fail. An SE of this age most likely needs a full cap job anyway. Notice any other static during normal operation?
Remove the back housing, keep your eye the analog board in a dimly lit room, and flip the power switch. For truly, if you hear a "static" kind of sound, then you will likely see a spark somewhere inside when you flip that switch. And where you see the spark is the source of trouble.
