Speed-O-Meter crashing

G'day!

So, I've been giving the 4400-160 a serious run up of late and using it for real work. Also lots of fun retro-coding in Symantec C++ 8.0. I wanted to benchmark it so I have a baseline for modifications I've made.

Got a problem with it.. at the end of the benchmark, if I go to load the machine records it will lock solid. It's 100% repeatable. Machine has been solid as a rock baring this.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? Should I be using a more modern benchmark suite on 8.6 that I'm unaware of?

Interesting, my IIsi does this exact same thing. But only under System 6.0.8. Under 7 it doesn’t. Like your 4400, it has no other issues.

As the IIsi and 4400 share virtually nothing in common, this is probably no help to you other than a “Yeah, that’s curious” moment.

I took down the 7100 at lunch.. did the same thing.

My experience with speedometer is that is it very crash happy on faster macs
From my testing it tends to be fine on 68020's and slower 68030's, then tends to crash on exit (locking the machine up) on faster 68030's and then is mostly fine on 68040's with just the occasional crash. I haven't really used it on PPC's but I would not be surprised if they have a different weird crashing problem with it

I have also found it frequently corrupts the machine records file and will then lock up when opening it so it's possible that's just your issue

Thanks max. Hmm.. I think this could be the issue.

I'm wondering if there's an alternative benchmark I could use?
