Soph’s finds

Thought I’d better start one of these threads..

My latest find is this 7100 66av for £45, I feared the worst as it was sold as non working and no photos of the internals but after a good clean its working fine.. well apart from the pds av card which has random horizontal lines now n then but I put my spare hpv card in and yep all good.

Nice! The Power Macintosh 7100/66 was my first PowerPC Mac, and it got me through all my college years. I have fond memories of playing Marathon with friends back then.

Great find! That era was super interesting - first generation PPC, still has NuBus, before the switchover to IDE so still rockin' SCSI. Also wow I didn't know the 7100 had that many caps, that's quite a project when you decide to recap 😅

Same here, even though I bought it second hand on a tight budget and it was pretty old by then, my 7100/66 took me through university - and countless hours for my flatmates and I playing F/A18 Hornet.

Funny: it is my intention at VCF Midwest this year to have a few Power Macs networked and showcase 90s network games including F/A-18, Marathon, and Bolo with 4 or 5 computers so people can play.

I've helped set things up in the past, showcasing Bolo, Spectre, NetTrek, NetRisk, Strategic Conquest, and a few others. It can be a lot of fun :) I've always limited it to 68k games. And nowadays, you can even spin up a client in a browser so people can join in from wherever they're at!
