Software/Hack : Redraw moving windows

I'm looking for some software or hack to make the Mac OS redraw the window as I move it.

It was a big criticism that the wire frame was still a thing in OS 9. OSX first beta had OS9 looks and it did have this feature which was imported from NeXTSTEP.

So, if you know of an extension that would let me do this on 7.5 on an 030, I'd be really happy if you could share your knowledge.  :)

The very first version of NeXTSTEP did incorporate this as well, and it ran on a 68030, so I don't see why it couldn't be possible to add this to 7.5?

Thanks

Power Windows suports both System 7 and 68k. What I don't know is how fast it is on a 16MHz 030. (That's a lot of redraw calls!)

Thanks Galgot. That's exactly what I needed. I remember seeing that name pop up somewhere but I forgot what it was for!

Works great on 7.5.1 and 7.5.3 (in Mini vMac at least). However version 2.4.5 has A LOT MORE GLITCHES than 2.0.1 as far as I'm concerned... 2.0.1 does the job remarkably well. Tested on an 020 (Mac II emulation), so I think it'll work even better on the 50Mhz 030.

Here's what it looks like (the icons won't redraw until you let go of the mouse button though... kinda odd but still it's AWESOME) :

PS: Also showing "Mac Identifier". What is it?

PS2 (not the Playstation 2): This site supports GIFs very well!

Didn't know Mac Identifier, will try try that thks.

Will try doing animated screenshots like that too :p very cool.

Ahh, forgot you had a 50MHz accerlerator! Yup, should work just fine then on your SE/30.

(Sigh: I'm still only at 16MHz)

@Themk

Yeah I'm proud of my little baby SE/30   :p . Don't worry too much about your 16Mhz 030, I'm sure you'll find an accelerator one day. And don't forget that you already have 24 bit color! That's awesome.

I'd like to put my hands on a Turbo 040 some time in the future for another SE/30, or should I say SE/40? 030s are good, but some games won't run on anything lesser than a 040...

@galgot

Here's how I proceeded:

I used Screenflow to record my Mac's screen, then Screenflow's own editor to crop and edit the video. After that I used cloudconvert.com to convert the .mp4 to a .gif (not particularly happy about the output quality... It's kinda blocky and crappy).

Uploaded the gif on giphy and voilà.

I wonder why Apple didn't think of integrating that feature back in the day, at least on powermacs... They have plenty of power. It's not as if that little extension drew too much processing power as well!

Found another neat piece of software. I've been using this for the last hour and now I just can't go back.

It's called LightSwitch. The GIF speaks for itself  :)

Basically what it does is this: it brings to System 7 OSX's ability to quickly switch between apps by using command+tab. It works great. Somehow some apps don't display their name in the LightSwitch window... but it's awesome nonetheless!

Go get it now for the reasonable price of $0 !

This got me thinking again, is there an app which redraws the screen while scrolling? There must be one out there! And IIRC there was also an app which brought yet another OSX functionality, this time command+delete (Move to trash), but what's its name?

yes Lightswitch is neat. There is a thing called AppTab doing the same i think.

Check Hidden_Finder_Features for trashing stuff with Cmd-delete. Not sure it works old systems (7) though.

AppTab doesn't work for me. Too troublesome... It creates preference files everywhere and it must be registered.

RealDrag isn't as good as PowerWindows I think: It does the same thing but when you move the window around ALL the icons disappear... and don't necessarily reappear... PowerWindows doesn't have that glitch, but YMMV. Plus I noticed the Finder had less memory available when RealDrag was installed vs when PowerWindows was installed.

HiddenFinderFeatures works great on 7.5.3 but since it relies on features brought by 7.5.2, it does not work on 7.5.1...
