Smashed-up PowerBook G4 Ti 1.0

Hot off of eBay for about $70 is a lovely, beat-down 'Book supposedly fresh out of gov't service. Two broken hinges, cracks in the lower case, and cracked adhesive all around means that I've finally got a project! I've been working on it most of the afternoon.

I've already:

*Disassembled it entirely to determine the extent of the damage

*Pulled the display apart completely

*Changed the color of the Apple logo to blue

*Reassembled the display

*Partially reassembled most of it.

*Tested the machine.

*Disassembled the keyboard to wash the keys and remove the food and hair beneath.

It works fairly well, as I'm posting on it now. The epoxy on the display should be dry tomorrow, and then I can epoxy the top and bottom case up real nice and put it all back together.

I actually bought a bunch more old PowerBook G4s on eBay the past week or two since mine died, so I'll have even more fun as soon as my mom consolidates and re-mails them out to me (most eBay people won't ship to APOs, dammit).

That display looks quite nice, if you ignore all the paper clips...
I am sure after the glue is settled, it will be fine. It's only to hold the bezel tight around it so it can set. It's not permanent.

Anyways, grats on the scores! i have a rebuilt GateWay I got from my brother's wife after she got married to my brother and I had to rebuild the screen and basically tear it down after it was dropped from a foot. I love rebuilding laptops.

My dad brought a laptop from a friend over to me to fix. It was CHUCKED into a dumpster and the kid wanted to know if it would be fixed. I got it back together and it runs nicely except the fact that one of the screen hinges broke. $20 on ebay got me two hinged (Only needed the right one) and when they come, I will install it.

You should have seen it. The whole case was off. Nothing matched up. I got it fixed up and it looks great now (no broken plastic, only a broken metal hinge :( )

It's a Pentium III 1.0Ghz laptop w/ 256MB RAM and a DVD-ROM. The only thing that was dead was the HDD, and from what I can tell, I think that was the reason why the last person chucked it out. It's coming along nicely.

Anyways, no matter how complicated the laptops are, I always love going into them! Fun to see how they tick ;)

Get more and rebuild them! you can make a huge profit off of them!
