Radius 81/110 Zip!

This one has been on the drawing boards for a very long time, now that I've got a second SCSI Zip 100, today was the . . . start . . .

. . . almost finished though! :D

Nearly finished shot first:

. . . just a bit of sheet metal work to do with the die grinders in the AM when I can run the compressor and work in daylight on the terrace . . .

. . . and some shims for under the Zip drive, it's sitting a tad lower than I'd prefer . . .

. . . longer screws for the FDD shims, 3 #8 washers worth ATM . . . probably just about right . . .

First step: line up a goodly sample of the replacement front bezels, NIBubblepack alongside the OEM part, that'd be the yellow one! ;)

Note the slight sheet metal modifications to the center unit, they'll be a bit more pronounced in the AM. The one on the left donated its Floppy Bezel to the cause.

Here' s a straight up comparison of the original config to the Zip Config:

This is about as clear a shot of the FDD bezel mod that produced the Zip Bezel as I've got at this point:

Note that the new shape is conformed a bit more to the characteristic Zip opening, as much as plastic return thicknesses will allow, this too will be tweaked.

This shot shows the roughed-in sheet metal changes, the bottom bay was set up for a DAT drive by the look of it.

There are 3 #8 washers spacing the FDD above the floor level of the DAT drive bay/tray.

One level ought to be about right fotr the Zip Drive. :b&w:

Closeup of the very nearly finished hack:

Note the slightly visible sheet metal, that'll change, possibly the FDD as well, beige/platinum floppy door might be more appropriate, dunno!

I've been putzink around with the Radius 81/110 on and off for years, more so lately. Had the G3 Accelerator not gone teats up, I'd have posted about more progress with it by now, but it has been a 12 or 13 year long labor of love, more to come.

Update, sheet metal work complete . . .

. . . except for cleaning up and straightening edges nobody but myself will ever see . . . :-/

The plastics are almost right now though. [:)] ]'>
