Hey,
Working on a 6400 and 8500 lately. Pulled my old Radeon 7000 out of storage that I bought back in the day when I upgraded my G3 to a G4 ZIF (so we’re talking 20-25 years ago), for troubleshooting. Never had an issue with it.
I was able to boot the 6400 (visually) to desktop the first time I had it in and verify operations. All was good. Since then, it will not display an image on either the 6400 or 8500. I can hear both computers booting via hard drive sounds and they will respond to keystrokes once booted, but I get “No Signal” on the card now. Internal video is fine on both. If there was a signal and it was out of range my monitor would display “Out of Range.”
I had no Radeon drivers installed at the time it worked. Since then, I’ve installed every combination of Radeon drivers I can find, and no difference. Tried OS 9.2.2 and 10.2.8 on the 8500. It was 9.1 or 9.2.2 on the 6400; don’t recall. Also tried booting with factory CDs of 8.1-9.0. All behave the same. CUDA resets, different slots, no change. Apple System Profiler reports the card as a generic “Video card“ or “Display card” in the PCI section with an ID of 1 or 10,1 (again, don’t recall; on vacation/holiday at the moment) on both machines but no other information.
Am I missing something stupid, or am I correct in assuming this card has simply succumbed to the ravages of time and has a deeper hardware issue?
