Quickdraw GX fonts

A question: When running a system with Quickdraw GX enabled (and yes, the OS is properly configured), why can I not see the additional characters supposedly included in GX fonts like Hoefler or Tekton in bog-standard programs that are otherwise Quickdraw GX savvy? I cannot, for instance, get fractions or ligatures to display (under 7.6.1, and running Wordperfect 3.5e or even ClarisWorks 4)? Are there any explanations or work-arounds?

WorldScript I and II are not yet built-in in OS 7.6.1. Are they both installed and enabled in your System?

I don't have Worldscript II, but I do have Worldscript I installed, as it happens. Is the suggestion that the additional glyphs in the GX fonts might be accessed by way of the Worldscript II extension? That would make a lot of sense, given the use of Worldscript II in connection with Chinese and similar character systems.

I have a floppy version of Worldscript I (via a language kit) but not of II. Would the Worldscript software supplied on an OS9 CD install properly in system 7, do you know? If so, I'd give it a whirl.

In several pared-down installations I was irritated that TattleTech 2.84 would try to load, but fell over each time. One of the reasons proved to be that HoeflerText (in the splash screen) could not be displayed because WorldScript had not been installed, so you may be on the right path. I use 7.6.1 on PBs 180 and 160, and several IIcis, none of which knows much about PPC-native code.

Given the distance apart, in PPC-native code as well as version number, I should hesitate to use WS I & II from OS 9 in OS 7.6.1. Do you not have ready access to a 7.6.1 Install CD? If you become desperate, WS I & II and the WS Engine could be emailed to you by someone to whom you had PM-ed an email address.

Oops. I didn't know that Worldscript was included on the 7.6.1 CD. I haven't much experience of this system, truth be told, having used mainly 7.1 for several years, following which I skipped on to 8, 9 & X. So I am filling in some blanks these days by experimenting with some of the later system 7 technologies. Powertalk/ Powershare as well as QD GX are the current projects.

I will take a peek, do the install, and report back when I get a moment this coming weekend.

Installed Worldscript II. No difference. Ho hum.

Quickdraw GX still has certain advantages. For instance, under GX as the graphics engine in 7.6.1, the display on my 2300c is noticeably better at handling italics and proportional fonts than it would otherwise be. I like this a great deal, but do wish I were able in WordPerfect and the like to access the advanced typographical features of the underlying system software.

Installed Worldscript II. No difference. Ho hum ...
Was that with a Custom Installation or by use of TomeViewer? You make no explicit reference to WorldScript Power Adapter. Is that present?
