PowerPC OS Inception

I've been digging through some photos from a couple of years ago when I was playing with BeOS on a 9600/200MP.

Don't ever let anyone tell you BeOS won't run on a G3 processor. It cares about the logic board more than the processor. It even correctly names the processor in the CPU Utilisation widget.

Dual processor 200MHz 604e :

Pulse correctly works with a G4 too.
Yeah, I briefly tried a 350MHz 7400 or 7410 in it I think, but don't have a photo.

I'd be curious if it is happy with a 7450 or similar. I guess the fastest PowerPC BeOS bix would be one with a 1.0GHz Sonnet or perhaps a 1.2GHz PowerLogix in a Zif to processor slot adapter?

Can it be done the other way round, run BeOS on top of OS 8/9 ? And then run Sheepshaver inside there, for real weird inception vibes.

I haven't tried, but given BeOS is extremely picky about the hardware it runs on, I'd be surprised if you could sadly.

Out of interest what version of Mac OS are you running under SheepShaver? Never had much luck with it on BeOS.

Oh, I'm not certain, it was some variant of 7.5 I think, either 7.5.3 or 7.5.5.

Were you running PPC or x86 BeOS?
