Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I'm online with my Quadra 630 via a PDS ethernet card, and just decided to stop my and say hi. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go and download ShadowIRC.
It's just so *fun* to surf with a 68k, isn't it? I mean, just being able to do so with such ancient machines is a kick. I have an old Plus hooked up to the 'net 24/7 just for fun. My students find it amazing that a computer that's about as old as they are can surf (ok, dog-paddle) the net. Your Quadra positively flies in comparison!
Quadras are great on the internet. I've been using my Quadra 700 for internet for the last 3 weeks as part of RetroChallenge and it does the job nicely. Sites like this are OK but I've had a couple of occasions when I've needed to access modern, bloated sites and used the G4. I could quite happily ditch modern machines though and revert to using this Quadra for everything - it would probably be more productive too!
I find iCab is good for accessing complicated sites that won't render properly in Netscape, but it does hog the CPU alot. In terms of speed, Netscape 3 is the fastest browser I've used on my Quadra 700.
Basically I use both Netscape and iCab depending on my needs.
