Not a 68K Mac, but a Mac none the less

I acquired a Powerbook 1400cs today through an ad on Kijiji. Included manuals, system CD and the floppy drive unit, two power supplies and various disks. It's also got the colored paper inserts that Apple supplied to "customize" the look of it.

Running System 8.1 with 60 MB RAM and a 650 MB HD. It is the 117 MHz model.

The 117 doesn't have any L2 cache so that could be a problem, however it is easily fixed with a CPU upgrade.

The 1400 has no Open firmware and uses the NUBus.

This means it doesn't run much recent Mac OS versions.

RAM can't be more than 64MB(I didn't say it)

A patched Linux kernel is available for NUBus macs.

The 1400 has no 3D acceleration built in.

It is more powerful than my 6100,but I wouldn't play that much

games on it.

These days benjgvps you'd be better off with a Wallstreet or above. Industry standard PC RAM modules to 512MB and OS X 10.2+ make life a lot easier. Wallstreets are dirt cheap, but as laptops go they're also kinda large and heavy - if you can afford it, go for a Lombard or Pismo.

As a functional laptop, the 1400 is cool, but kinda limited. If you're happy with configuring classic Mac OS for the internets, and can live with the low RAM and slo-o-w net surfing, it's a pretty good cheap portable with a very nice keyboard. There are G3 upgrades, bit hard to find.
