Kinda lucked into this. Don't know much about it yet.
I hooked it up at first to the side by side drive I have for my IIe to try it out. I took the little RaspberryPi HDMI card out of the IIe to try out in this machine also. I got that Monitor /// free with the stand at our computer event in Boise!
I have since tried with with my Floppy Emu I have for the IIe and flashed for Apple II stuff. Seems to work great.
The Echo card and unit came with the GS. Borrowed the keyboard (and mouse though I haven't used it yet) from my SE30. It did come with an Apple II joystick!
Can anyone help me learn about battery placement? I have seen most others further over to the left (as we are looking at it in this pic) of the motherboard, more under the battery.
Another shot of the battery. It has been replaced. Not soldered on.
I think this wire goes up on the front of the Echo board to power it. There is another similar connector that is on black wires that look to go to the stock speaker that are also unplugged. And I am getting no sound.
Upgraded RAM.
when I looked up some info on where the clock battery goes, it seems like a lot of them are soldered onto the board further to the left under the power supply. This one appears to be where it is supposed to be. (it is a new battery) So I guess this is a ROM 3?? or Rev 3? As I said, don't know much yet.
Anyway, will be fun to learn about this and try some stuff. I am also pretty interested in creating sound with it, and I understand will need to get a different sound card for stereo. I understand the GS came with the Ensoniq ES5503 DOC chip, and is capable of 32-oscillator wavetable synthesis which could be fun to play with. WRT a stereo sound card, I see something on Joe's Computer Museum, though they may be out of stock at this point. Anyone want to point me in a direction for that aspect?
