Today I got an external BackPack CD-RW drive (drive promptly put in my USB/FW external case) and an Apple power supply (yo-yo).
So far the CD-RW drive appears to work OK (48x), but the power supply is another story.
The power supply will power up my Wallstreet, but since the PRAM battery is dead the typical behavior for being powered on occurs (fan revs up, light comes on, then shuts off). Pressing the power button will let the chime sound and that's about it. The hard disk does not spin up at all. Testing (correctly I hope) with a multimeter showed the wattage jumping from a few millivolts to about 19-20 volts.
Is there a way to test the power supply and/or fix it?
