MicroSpeed trackball with 9-pin female connector?

I recently purchased a serial trackball which reportedly works on a compact Mac. Took it out of the box and the trackball has a 9-pin female connector, not male as I was expecting.

I'm wondering if this was from a PC now. The trackball in question is a MicroSpeed PC-Trac.

Any ideas if this will work? I did some searching and many folks anecdotal state that the MicroSpeed trackballs are all the same except for the interface (be it ADB, PS/2 or Serial). Would it be as simple as a male -> female adapter?

Thanks,

For this you'll need the kind of cable that you use to connect a printer: a male-to-male cable. Connect one end to the back of your Mac and the other end to the connector on the trackball.
