Mandelbrot program for 68k and PPC

Hi, is there a fractal image generator for mandelbrot's etc. that runs optimized on both 68k and PPC Macs? I'd like to do a tangible demo of the advances in computing power between 68k (Mac SE/30) and  PowerPC (PMac 6100 or G3).

Maybe there are other programs that are well suited for such a demo?

Any help is much appreciated.

Best, bobo68

Interesting request.

In the parallel processing side of old Macs, there is this "Power Fractal Software" on the Dauger Research website: They used have one for the 68K but I cant find it. It shows the "processing power" of single vs. parallel connected machines processing the program, which by itself is small.

Here it is. As I remember seeing a demo video of it, it will run as is on a plain mac and with networked macs working in together. The program wants "Pooch" to run in parallel:

The Mandrel Bot program is here:

Here is a OS 8.6 and older version. Do not know if it runs on 68K though.

For parallel processing in 68K you need Launch Den Mother and Launch Puppy:

And the UCLA Physics Dept. AppleSeed Project (this is for OS 8, they have for OS9 and OSX, just play with the links...)

Super Mandelzoom is black and white and also runs on PPC. You can see the difference in performance.

Floating Fractals runs on both architectures and shows the difference, too.

I think just for a quick demo PowerXplorer (http://archives.math.utk.edu/software/mac/fractals/PowerXplorer/) is the best, because it is simple and you very much see the difference. It's from Alessandro Levi Montalcini who is still in Mac business with USB Overdrive.

End of 80's / beginning of 90's was really the fractal / mandelbrot super age on all platforms. I remember it quite well and I don't know why I initially did not find much software.

Hi bobo68,

I still programs somewhere that draws Mandelbrot sets. I'll go look for it and I'll let you know if I find anything.

all the best

Hi Bobo68

The Fractinit floppy was a flop, I'm afraid. It had long been written over by my brother's CV.

Have you tried the Macintosh Garden for shareware?
