Macuserman's Junk Collection

Got me thinking, …is the logic board in the Radius 81/110 identical to the one in an Apple PM 8100/110?
Yes it is, other than the video out connector which is DB15 on the radius. I’m a huge fan of the 8100 but I have been on the hunt for a Radius just because the case is so much tougher and well built and it doesn’t make me worry as much playing with it. I’ve got a super nice tricked out 8100 though here they are side by side for comparison.

I like how the Radius 81/110 has a normal video connector compared to the 8100's.

So it’s definitely not just Apple’s board then! …it might be 99% the same but Radius had their own version/production run. I agree the normal DB15 is nicer, one less dongle for everyone who doesn’t have that one 14” AV monitor with the HDI-45 connector.

I also didn’t realize how much bigger the Radius 81/100 was, no doubt makes it easier to work inside.

While the radius may be built better, I’ve gotta admit that I prefer the look of the 8100. But they are a real pain aren’t they. Radius is probably the safer investment!

The 81/110 needs the PS removed to get to a lot of stuff and isn't that fun to unscrew actually. The case is painted metal except for the front faceplate (cosmetic with removable metal backing), so it won't fall apart anytime soon.

I'll agree that it does have a lot of screws to take the case apart, but it's so much sturdier I'm not afraid to tinker with it and worry about breaking it. On the Radius the PS doesn't actually need to be removed it doesn't block anything important, the entire board/chasis will slide out with the PSU still attached and you can access everything, although it's still plenty of screws.

Received some grief in the other thread about my bezel collection for the 8100, so I decided to double down and literally double the size of my collection.

These here will be joining my collection soon:

I dare you to retrobrite those.
It would actually be a nice experiment, since you have so many. See if it actually affects the brittleness or not, like many people argue about.

So far I've not retrobrited anything. The shades of yellow don't bother me so much as when you can't find a matching hue part to use. I dunno it just hasn't ever seemed worth the trouble to retrobrite things. Whether it makes it worse or not why take the chance? Also seems like a very messy involved process when I've looked into it.

I do have plenty of machines that are quite yellow, but yeah I dunno. If I ever get everything working and the only thing left is cosmetics then maybe I’ll mess with it.

But given the size of the pile I don’t think that will ever happen! 😂😭

This.

Also, old things are allowed to look old.
