Macs that are really picky about scsi...

Hey,

I made a terminated 50pin -> SCA adapter a few days ago, and have ordered the parts to make another, it appears to work fine on both my LC's my P 450 and my 8600. I know the 8600 is not very picky (it works with no termination atall, however i do still terminate it) Not sure how picky the others are.

What i would like to know is what macs are really picky so i can keep a eye out for something to really test them on.

Any Mac which does not provide termination power is 'picky'. Perhaps on your Mark 2 adapter, you might add a TP option.

Any Mac which does not provide internal SCSI termination will be 'picky' too.

The IIfx has its own termination design. It is close enough to SCSI 2 active termination for most devices to work seamlessly, but not all.

Assume that the Mac Plus, PowerBooks, Duos and docks, Pippin, IIfx, Quadra 700 (unusual dual bus) will be fussy. It might be easier to rephrase the question: Which Macs are not picky?

Yes, hopefully my box full of parts should arrive tommrow so i'll be able to take pictures of how i made it.

At the moment the way i wired it the adapter is always terminated, the termination jumper dose nothing (except give the bus tp) my next version will have a jumper to enable and disable termination to the adapter

Guess i will have to finally get around to repairing my plus's analog board to test the adapter then...

I can assure you not all 8600s are created equal. The MESH controller in mine is very picky. Getting a 68-pin drive working required a terminator at the end of the bus and the one that should have been in the CD-ROM drive (the stock device at the end of the chain) didn't do.

Hmm... That is interesting, the mesh controller in mine is not very pickey about the hdd (it however didn't like me setting the cd's Id higher than 2)

Maybe the normal scsi bus is the picky one on mine.... Will do some testing tommrow. (That's if I don't get distracted by recapping my duo and the 450's tdk psu )
