Macintosh IIsi ROM simm

003

6502
I finally got one. The last things I need to get my SE/30 back up and running are:

-a logic board recap, and

-one of the mouse systems 3-button optical adb mice.

Once I get these final things taken care of, I think that I will have one of most, if not the most desirable SE/30 setups to ever have existed. Why? Because it's cool [8D]

They make/made 3-button optical ADB mice?

Why a IIsi ROm SIMM? Most people seem to want a IIfx one.

I think I have a SE/30 SIMM here in my drawer that was pulled from an upgraded IIfx before it was junked by the owner.

When used in an SE/30, the only difference between a IIfx and IIsi rom simm is that when you use the IIsi rom, it will boot up right away as normal when you power on the se/30. When you use the IIfx rom simm, when you do a cold boot, you will get garbage on the screen for about 25 seconds (give or take), and then it chimes and boots as normal.

Most people want the IIfx rom because it is a lot easier to find and a lot cheaper. The IIsi rom simm is very hard to find because only very few IIsi's had a removeable rom simm. The vast majority had the rom soldered to the logic board.

If we still had access to the old forum, the thread JDW made about 1.4mb floppys not working with his 040 and IIfx rom simm would explain a lot, but sadly, it and many other goldmine threads were lost forever.

They make/made 3-button optical ADB mice?
Yeah, I've got a Mouse Systems A3. It uses one of those "grid" mouse pads. Works great under NetBSD on my CC, too - will be a heck of a nice X terminal if I manage to do the 640x480 hack.

neither rom has proper floppy support yes?
No, they support them fine. It was when used with a Turbo040 that they did not work with 1.4mb floppies, however, nobody but JDW had that problem, which means it must have been an oddity with either the logic board, or the Turbo040.
