Macintosh IIsi (Battery acid eaten)

Hi,

I rescued a Mac IIsi today. I opened it up, and it is missing its hard drive. The battery has also leaked, corroded some areas here and there on the motherboard. A small SMD cap near the battery also fell off, but it is not broken, so maybe after the cleanup, I can solder it back on. It looks quite bad right now, but I think it looks worse than it actually is.

I will pull out the motherboard and give it a good cleaning, and see if things are working after that. All 4 RAM slots are populated, but the larger SIMM next to the RAM is empty.

That larger SIMM is for a ROM upgrade that was never made. The ROM should already be soldered down on the IIsi logic board (unless it is a fairly rare model) so it should not matter that that socket is empty.

The machine was a lost case. I started to clean the motherboard with a toothbrush, and chips fell off. Many legs on the SCSI controller chip (I think) had also been eaten away by the acid.

I salvaged the PSU, the floppy and the fan. Might come in handy some day :-)
