Macintosh IIcx/ci video adapter

Hi all!

My apologies if this has been asked before, but I just went a bit nuts and purchased a IIcx and a IIci off of ebay. The IIcx is in original box and looks to be in nice shape, the IIci has some wear and doesn't appear to be making a chime when it boots, so it'll need some work I imagine. Anyways, on to my actual question... I have a graphite 17" Studio Display (the first one with VGA connector) and was wondering if these machines will work on this monitor with an adapter? If so which one would I need? I've seen some with dip switches and some without.

I like the kind with dip switches because you can toggle sync on green, which I've found is useful with various monitors and LCDs.

The Studio Display should have no problems connecting to either computer.

They should work fine on the monitor, CRTs are generally pretty resilient when it comes to driving odd resolutions. The only exception might be if someone's added an odd video card like a Radius GS/CM, a card that's fixed 1152x882 at 72 Hz or so but even then if it doesn't work it'd look funky and shouldn't damage anything.

You'll need a decent nubus video card to take advantage of the screen's resolution. 640x480 is hard to bear on a 17" or 20” screen.

I've found a few adapters on eBay. Not sure which one would be the best choice. They both have dip switches but the more expensive one has options for video sync.

The Premium one has support for sync settings, but man that seems expensive.

Well the IIci arrived today, and it's going to need some work. The power supply is shot, as it continuously clicks, and it appears the battery exploded, although I won't be fully sure of the damage done until i get the power supply and drive sled out.

Good luck! That looks pretty bad, but once you get the board cleaned up, who knows? Worst case, you might be able to find a replacement motherboard for not too much.

I'm planning to use my battery-destroyed boards to practice soldering.

It looks like the case actually took more of a beating than the logic board did, but I'm hoping I can find replacements for the large rusty rectangular part (I'm assuming an oscillator of some sort?) and the smaller one above it and to the right. The IIcx I bought appears to be in much better shape overall, and appeared to be working before they sent it out to me. Guess I'll find out when it gets here.

Got it a little cleaner but still a fair bit of work to do.
