LC, LC III & LaserWriter

In the back of my car right now, is sitting a LaserWriter (not sure what type) Macintosh LC, and Macintosh LC III. Not sure of the specs, but I will know tomorrow. One of the LC's have an expansion card. I will dig into it:

Conquest: Free!

I also got a bag of cables, so I will have to go through that. I think there are some mics and stuff. I also seemed to have remembered I left a custom keyboard over there for the mac. It's got the "clicky-keys" design. so I will have to go back and get that.

Score one for the big man!

Nice work - the LCs are pretty cool machines and those LaserWriters are almost bulletproof.

Let us know what the LC expansion card is.

I brought them in, kind of excited and disappointed:

This is what I got:

LC (bad battery, EXPLODED all over. Took out 1/4th the board. Board is just, even ate the terminals off the battery holder, it was rolling around. Not sure on other parts. either way, the board is trashed. other things will become parts.

LC II (not III) 16Mhz 68030, not sure of RAM (has default, 2MB I think) The LC has RAM, not sure about that either. both of the LC slots are filled.

Personal LaserWriter LS. techfury90 told me this is low-end (4PPM?) I will check this out tonight.

I haven't played with them, I don't even know if they work, but I will try to get the LC II working. The caps on the LC II look good, no breaking/leaking, so I might be good on that. :D

You should have removed the PRAM battery before turning it on (that's what I do when I receive an old modular/compact computer). Oh well, at least it was free.

I haven't turned it on. it exploded before I used it. I just took off the cover and saw the result. btw, pics enclosed.

Specs of the LC II:

16Mhz 68030 (LC?)

10MB RAM

256K VRAM

2.0MB Floppy/1GB HDD (old ones died)

Asante Token-Ring card

Ah, now I see. That battery probably exploded when the previous owner had it, hence why it was free. I would be surprised if it "just exploded" as you opened the top housing.

Look on the bright side- it's only an LC. If it had been an SE/30, or a Power Mac 5400 (you know, a "real Mac") then the loss would have been more devastating.

Well, the LC II works. installing System 7.5.3 on it right now. Using a zip drive. I can't seem to get it to boot off the Zip drive though. It's a SCSI Zip|100 and it just doesn't like to boot. I got the PM 6500, so I was able to make a boot floppy (Network Boot Disk) and was going to install over localtalk, but that was taking forever. It also would not mount the zip without the iomega driver, despite being hooked up at boot with a disk in (HFS Standard). So I copied the network boot system folder to the internal HDD, booted from that, hopped on the localtalk connection to the PM 6500, pulled the Iomega driver and put it on the system folder on the HDD.

I am not installing from the zip disk. The SCSI bus on this is freaking slow....

Oh well, once I get it up, I got a few games I am going to play on it :)

Sim City 2000 being one, Sim Tower another, and a few MECC games (Museum Madness, Number Munchers, etc..) I think I will try getting Widget Workshop running on this too :)
