Lampshade iMac 17"

Found a 1ghz, 768MB RAM, 80GB hard drive lampshade iMac G4 (not the USB 2.0 model unfortunately) for $100. Picked up today, got it home but found the optical drive would just spit out media. I threw a DVD+RW drive in and it has Leopard installing now. Now it needs a little more RAM and an Airport Extreme card.

Neat.

I am working on restoring a 1 GHz 17" iMac G4. I got a broken one for $40 from the recycler that wouldn't turn on. I found a 1 GHz board in one of my piles of junk and tried it and it worked. The screen has some scratches on it though. I have another screen in better condition I could try but I think that's a real PITA to replace.

Cool. They are a bit of a pain. I've never worked on one of these and was able to dig into it with ease. Mike, do you have any good deals on Airport Extreme cards for one of these by any chance? All I have are spare original Airport cards.

Working on those things are easy, as long as you're in the base.

HAS anyone ever replaced one around here?

I think you need that special 3 hole tool thingy that Apple used on the arm.

How deep are the screen scratches? You could try toothpaste, a soft cloth and plenty of elbow grease.

Nice looking G4 you got there. I was always a fan of that design. I know it's not highly upgradeable like towers, but form and function definitely met each other on the day that design was approved.

Yeah, it's a very nice conquest, especially being the 1GHz version, enabling easy installation of Leopard. And $100 is an excellent price for the 17" version. Well done!
