Just got a Mac SE FDHD in...

Hello everyone. Just signed up recently so this is my first post.

I just got a working Mac SE FD HD in. I am unsure of its specific specs ( hard drive size and ram amount if it has any 3rd party upgrades, ect)

But I dont have any system disks or an adb keyboard and mouse.

The hard drive does not have an os. I got it as an "as-is" sale untested. And to my surprise it works.

Also the hard drive seems to work, but may not be in the best shape from the way it sounds in operation.

Thanks,

Dak

It's a SCSI hard drive they always sound like rocks grating. If it works start looking around the sight on how to keep it up and running and enjoying your new acquisition. Welcome to the real world .......

It may also have a Miniscribe HDD which would provide a nice, fast clunking sound from the servo motor moving the heads as well as the standard platter motor whine.

I was researching those microscribe hard drives. I am not entirly new to collecting vintage macs, so I know quite alot about them. I used to have quite a few around. But I am trying to get back into it. So does anyone have an adb keyboard and mouse and maby some system disks they'd like to sell or trade?

Yeah I have some, PM me your address, I can send you a mouse and keyboard and , did you want some 6.0.8 install disks? I can throw those in just cover the shipping...

The keyboard is apple design keyboard, and the apple adb teardrop mouse.

If you just want to see an OS running on it, you can download the 6.0.8 disk tools disk image from the Apple site. You'll need another Mac with a floppy drive to make the disk, but if you want to see a smiling Mac before your kb & mouse arrive, that's a way to go.

Well the SE is the only computer I have that has a floppy drive right now or I would have have made some disks from images.

Its the FDHD so it does not use 800k disk drives. And thanks again for the equipment uniserver, much appreciated.

Ill give an update when I get the items in. Who knows this SE might have some hidden upgrades...

Well this is weird. After fiddling with the floppy drive for a while, I realized that something was amiss with it.

After tryingto get a floppy in the system actually booted from the HD. So the stuck drive was actually causing it it overlook the HD because it thought it had a floppy in the drive. So it boots to a locked system. Cant write to the hard disk but to one temp folder. The system is 6.0.8 and seems to be original. But it was locked down as if it were for a remote company worker.

I had troubles getting it to read floppies. After a while I have it reading floppies fine but the floppy drive will need replacing.

So I did some googling and found the the custom option under the apple hd sc setup had a lock disk function. I used it to unlock the hard disk. Then I used file find to find and move some other extensions that preform other lock functions.

So now the system can boot freely but some files are hidden like the system folder. Any ideas?
