The systems were water damaged when a second floor air conditioning drain pipe leaked through the roof cavity of the art building. No damage to the building, but these systems were directly under the pipeline.

Six machines in total were damaged. It was my job to open them up, service them and clean the cases. Thankfully all six survived with no faults, but due to laws imposed by DECS that previously damaged machines may not be placed back into a school environment, the machines have been condemned to the crusher.

That's what they think anyway. I think most of the department has their eyes on one, so none will be going to the crusher. Additionally, since i'm working in that department for 3 weeks, I also get one.

So. The above system is mine, to be picked up on Friday, free of charge (well, it's in trade for 2 weeks service). I've put what I thought was the best of the bunch aside. Just needs a RAM boost up to 1GB and i'll be set.

I've retired from active membership on this forum, but I had to stop in and post this.

I couldn't believe it at first... I asked him what he wanted done with all the old G5's. He just looked at me and went "What G5's"? I was holding one at the time, flipped it over and sure enough... "© 2007 Apple Inc". Quickly realised it was an Intel.

Think I was gasping for breath when he told me I could have one free of charge. :lol:

I'll make a few calls over the next few days about a RAM upgrade, then get it all up and running with Mac OS X 10.5. Not really concerned about the fact it's a previous model, or that it has a GMA950... i'm just stoked to have a machine with some heavy punch under the hood, and a good supported life ahead of it.

I'll make a few calls over the next few days about a RAM upgrade, then get it all up and running with Mac OS X 10.5. Not really concerned about the fact it's a previous model, or that it has a GMA950... i'm just stoked to have a machine with some heavy punch under the hood, and a good supported life ahead of it.

The integrated graphics isn't really a problem unless you do hardcore gaming.

On the RAM issue, though, I strongly recommend you max it out - Leopard likes RAM a lot! Even my 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo iMac with 1033MHz frontside bus runs faster in Leopard with maxed out RAM (4GB) than the default amount (2GB).

I have the same model but with a dedicated video card and I'm quite pleased with it. It's a great machine and does bootcamp and parallels fairly well. Congrats.

I've installed 2GB of Kingston RAM, grand total of $43. It's absolutely cruising. Mac OS X Leopard is installing now, then i'll probably throw on Windows XP in Parallels. Bloody beautiful.

Dude. You *GOTTA* get an aluminum keyboard for that. I got one for my Dual 500Mhz G4 Sawtooth, as well as one for the iMac Core2Duo 2.0Ghz that my mom has. They rock, but your typing will be easier if you ditch that pro keyboard. also, I would suggest another mouse but a solo-button pro mouse. Get something like a Logitech Wireless mouse. We have an MX600 and it works nicely. With volume/Back/Forward buttons, you can configure spaces and expose nicely. Also, the Aluminum keyboard goes together nicely with the iMac.

Anyways, congrats on the score iMac600. Truly a worthy conquest to share with us. Now if only I could have gotten my MacBook for free, I would have loved it (But I got it payed off last month!!! Yay!!!)

That photo was taken in the IT administration office, so it's their keyboard and mouse. I'm actually using a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse and an Apple Pro Keyboard, but the aluminium keyboard is my next planned upgrade. (been using one in the IT office for a while, love 'em.)

Wheel mouse is brand new, and I couldn't be happier with it, so it'll be staying.

Yeah. Apple hit it right on the spot when they came out with the new "Chicklet" styled keys. It feels pretty natural to type on them. I have ALWAYS loved either IBM "Clicky-Keys" type keyboards, or laptop keyboards (Modern laptop with the "Spring" and solid feels to the keys)

They feel natural to use, and Apple makes a fantastic (and durable, considering my keyboards haven't buckled under how hard I type on them/fast I type on them) and feel downright amazing. Get that upgrade soon! They are really nice to work with (as you found out) and the white keys go better than that black keyboard

What's fun to is, if you have a black pro keyboard and white pro keyboard (counting the one with the usb ports in the front and the iMac keyboard with no volume buttons) you can swap the key caps so you can have a checkered keyboard.

I've had a lot of white Pro Keyboards in the past (three to be exact), but only one black Pro Keyboard. Too bad I sold the black Pro Keyboard because I'd like to try that...

Wow, that keyboard looks like total shite. I've seen some bad two-toned keyboards in my time, but that takes the cake by far.

I'll be placing an order for an Apple Aluminium keyboard shortly, which should be more than ideal and enough to complete the setup. It docks in with my iBook creating a sweet home and away digital hub. (Also makes for a pretty sweet LCD DVD player)
