Horribly Abused iBook G4 1.2Ghz

My friend used to own an iBook G4 1.2Ghz 14" a long time ago before both he and i got macbooks

He ended up giving his old iBook to his sister and yesterday it came back to me. It's broken, and when I took it apart, I found that not only was crap spilled into it (the case looks like crap as well with sticky stuff from stickers left

The Screen, HDD and Optical drive is in OK shape. it has 768MB RAM (256 onboard, 512MB PC-2100 DIMM)

The board was washed, and I will let it dry for several days to get the sticky crap off it. The machine would turn on and run for maybe 30 seconds then shut off. I looked at the DC Jack and found that the solder mounts on the DC jack were broken on all mounted except one mount. Which means the DC jack would lose power. This might be the issue with the machine shutting off, but it still made sense to wash the board. I also washed the DC jack before soldering. I happened to snap a picture with my phone prior to washing it, but I hope I can get it fixed.

An idiot that described himself to the family as a "PC guru" has almost ruined this. He ruined an IBM Intellistation Z Pro (Dual netburst Xeon) and I got that as well. Either way, this idiot not only left sever screws leaving the bottom white plastic with ZERO screws, I also found a couple wires kinda massacred. I am fixing all those. He also left the wireless card out which my friend spent money on when the laptop came out due to it not being standard.

Either way, I hope I can get it up. Wish me luck (oh, he also killed the power supply so I borrowed one from a friend)

Fixed. for the most part. washing the board and then drying with a heat gun allowed me to get it up. The solder dc jack has been resoldered.

Installing 10.4 on it now

amazing what a little goo-gone will do and a good washing.

Also the bottom is white again. When my friend bought it, he worked as a newspaper carrier and it was all covered with the ink from papers. Well no more!
