HDI-45 to VGA DIY attempt

Hey congratulations!  I'm really glad to hear this worked out.

Mind if I ask where you found the perf board with the correct spacing?

I could be wrong, but I think the motherboard video actually tops out at 832x624 on those. kan.org will know.
Thank you very much. I am a bit surprised myself... ;)

No secret at all: Digikey. It was from a 6x4 inch (or so) with 2mm pitch and soldered through pads.

I totally cheated, since the horizontal pins on the HDI are spaced at 2mm, but vertically at 1.5mm.

So top, middle and bottom row worked out OK but rows in between were a challenge, so I had to find a row that sort of matched to solder them in and then I bent those pins.

Thanks for the info on resolution, I think I got that one by forcing one of the rgb modes with the jumpers.

No hig deal, I would just like to squeeze as much as I can out of it.

Bumping this thread, as the original pictures have disappeared and the two websites linked in the post have also vanished.

Does anyone have backups of the images, or another post where someone attempted the same?

There’s someone over on TinkerDifferent working on a new adapter design:

Hey, that's me! I think we have a solid, repeatable solution now. Posted the details on github: https://github.com/wottle/HDI-45-Adapters

I have a DA-15 and HD-15 version, along with DIY instructions.

If you don't want to deal with that, I have partnered withJoes Computer Museum to build a batch of pre-made versions for people who can't / don't want to make their own. Details on that should be coming out shortly.

Hey, that's me!
Hey, it’s you! I thought I’d seen your user name on both forums, but responded quickly to this thread and got lazy 😃

Thanks for working on this project - the HDI-45 was annoying enough when adapters were easier to come by, and are downright painful now that they aren’t. I’m glad to see a reproducible solution so we can keep these machines running!
