Format Firewire Drive Mac OS 9.1

I purchased a modern LaCie FW 400 drive for use with my Power Mac 5400 with a Sonnet Tango 2.0 card and running Mac OS 9.1. The machine has no difficulty recognizing the drive, but neither Drive Setup nor Hard Disk Toolkit is able to format the drive. Is there any specific tool I should use for this on OS 9.1? Or am I relegated to using a modern Mac to format the device before moving it back to the 5400?

Best option I'd think: select the drive's icon on the desktop and select "Erase Disk..." from the Special menu. If you mean it won't recognize the drive, usually an unrecognized drive will bring up the "This disk is unreadable..." dialog box. I assume that isn't happening. You can then possibly try a third-party tool for formatting. I have an original FW400 LaCie drive as well...did yours come with LaCie software?

Thank you. I will try that. Should that not work, any specific third-party tool you'd recommend?

The drive does have a LaCie software tools image, but Disk Copy won't open--gets an EOF error. I downloaded some LaCie tools from 2004 but haven't tried them yet. Have to wonder if they will work with this modern drive.
