Firewire and MaxPowr in my 5400/120?

Struggling to get both PCI Firewire and my 300 Mhz MaxPowr G3/L2 to coexist under OS 9.1 in my Power Mac 5400/120.

I've tried both a Sonnett Tango 2.0 and Adaptec AFW-4300CS.

A LaCie Firewire drive mounts fine if I disable the MaxPowr extension (running version 2.0.4).

The G3 card operates as expected even with the Apple Firewire Enabler and Support extensions loaded (running versions 2.7). However, if I try to boot with the LaCie attached in this configuration, the machine crashes immediately after the blank Finder desktop appears.

Tried upgrading to the Apple Firewire extensions from OS 9.2.2 (version 2.8.5). This caused a repeatable system crash on boot, even without the LaCie drive attached.

Suggestions appreciated. Any thoughts on alternative Firewire drivers I might try? Is there a different version of the MAXpowr extension I should look for?

Use Power Logix CPU Director to disable speculative processing?

What does dump-device-tree show in Open Firmware?

Can you install OS 9.2.2 using OS 9 Helper?

I'll give those a try and report back. I did a 9.2.2 upgrade a few weeks ago but could never find an extension for the MaxPowr G3 that worked.

J.
