Ever Heard of cc:Mail?

That was my original plan but it doesn't look like this program can simply connect to a mail server the way a modern mail program can.
ccMail is definitely workgroup mail.
Wasn't Netscape 2 a browser only, not a "communicator" package? And did you me IE4.5? If so, I know that browser has no email component. Soooooo I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Netscape 2 added a browser. IE4.x had Outlook Express.
You may have to applescript everything. Open each email, read it, and dump it into a CSV, or a Text file.
I don't mean to be a pain, but... Netscape added a browser, I assume you mean Netscape added an email client TO the browser. But I don't think they did that until version 4. And I tested version 4, it has no way to import mail that I could see.
Also None of the IE4.5 installers I've seen included Outlook. The oldest Mac compatible version of outlook I've been able to find is 5.0.6, and it is not able to import ccMail from what I've been able to tell. It can import, but only from other more popular programs.
No, the email client is definitely in Netscape 2. It's a simple one, but it IS there.
Yeah, it was a simple one, just for internet mail.
My guess is maybe lotus Notes/Domino could have something relevant for import ccMail files?

One thing to keep in mind, cc:mail didn't actually store messages on the local client unless you specifically pulled and archived them to a file. Otherwise everything was stored on the server "Post Office" similar to IMAP or Exchange. If you have a working client on the Mac and can view the files/messages, you should be able to at least dump something to ASCII text resembling the mbox format.

Yup I got ccMail 6 there. I got it installed. But it won't let me do anything AT ALL without logging in. I'm only logging in to a local post office though, so I'm not sure what it's looking for. I asked the owner of these mail files if she used a username and password to open them, I haven't heard back yet. We'll see if this gets me anywhere.
I finally got the actual Mac that was originally running these files. My plan was to back up the machine, then try messing around with things like upgrading the ccMail version, playing around with applescriptability etc.
BUT so far, the machine will not power on.
This happened the first time when I copied these files off initially. That was the first time this mac had been used in 20 years. At first, it would not power up, but after leaving it plugged in for an hour, it magically started working. Not so lucky this time around. I'm hoping it starts up eventually and I can poke around and see what I can come up with.

CC:Mail was one of the best mail apps I've ever used. We went to Lotus (IBM) Notes and it went down hill rom there.
Give me Exchange (or Zimbra with either EWS or ActiveSync) any day. For a small shop, I'd rather donate a kidney to pay for a good workgroup solution like Zimbra/ZExtras or Exchange than ever be tortured with Notes.
