Doing monitor repairs in 512e—help

I have been reading "https://68kmla.org/files/classicmac2.pdf" and it's very helpful, but I've run into a snag. My 128k -> 512e has orange double-sided adhesive pads that hold the white, plastic static card to the analog board. I'm trying to re-solder the 4 J1 solder joints, but this adhesive, which is very strong and been there since 1984, is situated right on the 4 joints for J1. Is there a preferred way to remove it from the board?

If I gently peel the adhesive away from the board, it will leave deposits on the joints. What can I clean this stuff off with?

FYI, I have a functioning SE to use for parts if necessary.

SE analog is different. The adhesive is just old double stick tape. Peel it off, scrub its off. I used a soft wire brush myself.

Understood. I'll get the gunk off with something. Perhaps a pencil eraser, before I break out the wire brush. I mentioned the SE because the whole CRT is identical and I can swap it if need be.

Also, if I touch up the solder joints on the flyback transformer, is that considered "HV work" and therefore needs a CRT discharge?

Alcohol should help speed up removal, they are adhesive after all. Yes, HV work - discharge first.
