Control strip in a Weird place...

This happened last time when I last had OS 9 on this machine. Now, with what is probably my third semi-permanent installation of OS 9 on my computer, a Power Mac G4/500 Mhz with 320 MB ram and a 40 GB HD, the control strip has mysteriously moved to the middle of the left side of the screen, and it's driving me NUTS! I want it to be on the bottom left of the screen where it belongs! Changing the resolution doesn't work either. Someone please help me sort this out... >

hold either option or command and drag the little triangular-ish tab on the end of the control strip up/down or left/right to change its position.

Wow, never knew that, Dana. I've always been turning Control Strip off, trashing Control Strip Preferences, then rebooting. Nice to know there's an easier way!

I had only known about non-option dragging to just change its left/right size.

Just to clarify, I just tried it, and it is Option, not Command. But it's very nice, you can even make it 'dock' to the right side of the screen instead of the left.

It took me two years of struggling with the control strip to discover how to do this. I think it is listed somewhere amongst the Mac OS Help section, but I can't remember. Changing the screen resolution often has the effect of putting the Control Strip part way up the edge of the screen.

Yeah, I had the most problems when switching from 640x480/256 to 640x400/Thousands mode on PowerBook 5300c's. Every time I went from x400 to x480, the Control Strip would bump 80 pixels up. If I changed a few times, I might end up with the Control Strip at the top of the screen!

(This was back when the 5300c was fairly new, and I liked to watch movie trailers in Thousands color mode, which required the lower resolution.)

I'll have to try this myself, my control strip on my iBook G3 (OS 9.1) has been in the wrong place now since 2003!

Upon showing me the Control Strip

He walked me though the control panels

The strip was there

While on the phone

option-click it's head

You can move it like a cat on a rope

Careful, Grandpa, or your words may tend to date you. Control Strip made its entry to the world for the PowerBooks, and then emigrated to desktops with System 7.5.3, which ain't that long ago (c1996).
