Best Way To Repair A Broken Connector Pin?

Mac128

I've got a Dove MacSnap SCSI board with a broken ROM pin (these are thin round pencil lead types, not the flat chip types). Can I just solder on a new pin to the base? Does the metal matter, could it be the end of a paperclip? Or do I need to replace the entire pin down to the logicboard?

Hi,

could you post a pic of the damaged part? If I can imagine what sort of connector it is, there is nothing stopping you from resoldering in a thick guage wire to replace it. A paperclip should be fine if you can solder it on well.

I find that snipping a length of lead off of a resistor works well for most of that kind of repair. You may find it difficult to get solder to stick to a paper clip because of the various coatings/platings used.

I think Radio Shack still carries resistors and the beautiful thing is that the 1/4 watt will have a thicker lead than the 1/8 watt variety, so there some matching of gauge if you're careful.
