Battery not recognized in 5300ce

I've got a 5300ce which won't recognize the battery. I launched the Apple Battery Recondition and it said something like "no battery found, try reseating it." I cleaned off a bunch of chemicals front contacts-- both on the battery end and the PowerBook end. I attached a volt meter to the battery and it registered the tiniest of tiny charge.

Any ideas on what to do?

Its dead. I expect the battery detected a major fault (or the cells leaked and destroyed traces).
