asante mcilc card curiousity..

only found a few auctions online but they don't even say much beyond "heres an asante pds card" alone basically..

just wondering about a bit more basic details of what this card is

its 'asante tech inc (c) 1993 mclc rev.a' silkscreening, and the eeprom sticker says 'mcilc' followed by '000094-698d22' followed by 'u6' if thats of any note or not

also I did wonder if asante had been reusing the same one pcb for two different card models tho .. as its a bit funny seeing a smaller chip inside the footprint meant for a larger one otherwise!

this is the only one single photo I found online but it seem to be a complete physical match to what I have tho
(you can just about barely make out the small-chip-in-large-footprint there mind you)

What about this card? It's surely MacCon-i LC card for LC PDS slot. I have one in a Macintosh Color Classic, it works ok as long as I use a hub (there was also something like Ethernet cross-over cable - maybe that would work to connect to another machine directly). It needs Asante Ethertalk driver of which there are some versions floating about. The socket is for 68882 floating point co-processor - I guess with some Macs, you had to take out an FPU card to put network card in, so it's not uncommon for them to include this option. If you search for MacCon Ethernet you will find info including manual.
