Apple iie platinum off ebay

Received last week but just now getting around to posting it.

Well after searching a bit for a iie, I bit the bullet and decided to gamble on a $100 apple iie off eBay.

What will come with it? Does it really come with monitor?

Opened it up, wrapped decent, would've liked a bit more bubble wrap.

A monitor that didn't get crushed in shipping! No chipped plastic! (Apple iii IC labeled in the background..)

Looks like it belonged to a school system. The Ponway Unified school district to be exact after some research based on address/logo.

Quite yellowed, but adds to the appeal.

Has a serial card and a 5.25 inch drive controller card.

Only one floppy drive and a carton of disks

Won't be using the disks too much as I have a floppy emu.

Loaded a lovely demo up and watched through and listened to some lovely Christmas music through beeps and boops.

It's not perfect, there's sticker residue that I can't get off for the life of me even with googone, the writing from the school district, the yellowing. A big 28 that was taped on top of the montior that seems perma stuck there now.

The R key didn't work at all. I swapped it with the * on the numberpad.

The moment I desoldered it one of the legs fell right off and that one key was incredibly gross. No other key around it. Quite odd.

Every key now works except the * on the numpad though. I plan to keep the school system writing as it shows where this machine was in history.

I love having just a small bit of "this was used in a school system, saved and now in the hand of a collector to have fun with" theme.

Just excited to have a apple iie finally!

Back to slaving away with the apple ///

Definitely a steal. The IIe Platinum is my favourite of the Apple II family. Currently the only IIe machines I can find on eBay UK are £450 and £600 and they are not complete systems either.

Nice pickup - I think nearly all have school engravings on them! Nice machines and fun to tinker and upgrade.

I'd love to have a monitor like that for my Platinum IIe....

Mine came with a different monitor that looks like it would've been a better match for a IIc or IIgs.

It is color capable, I think, so there's that.

Another steal…
I've found quite the bit after searching for a while!

I am really enjoying it. I'd love to get a cracked iie regular and put it into a maceffects clear case.

I noticed that! So many off ebay were just stamped/prodded with school logos. Really fascinating. I'm happy to leave mine as is. But I know a lot of people want a "clean" machine. I love seeing where it was.

I now have a monitor ii and a monitor iii for both my ii and iii.

Just need a tiny black and white for when I build a tiny little apple i from reactive micro :)

I'm used to my amber monitor and my white iii monitor. The green is quite lovely and a change of pace!

Considering the sub-par packing job, I am absolutely amazed that it arrived in basically unscathed condition. Especially during the holiday rush period. The computer gods were smiling upon you.

Great looking system. Just last month I drove to pickup a IIe system (you can read about it here). Mine's a bog standard IIe and not the fancy Enhanced-Enhanced version like yours.

Wasn't familiar with the demo, something I'll need to track down. And I dig that you're keeping the history of its providence alive by maintaining the school documents. That'll be a nice touch when demoing the system.

I fully expected it to show up in pieces. The huge sigh of relief I had when I unpacked everything and to my surprise no damage!

It's a bit yellowed. But for $100 I really can't complain that much.
$100 US American dollars?! That's quite a deal. Hopefully you didn't pay too much for the shipping, considering.

bought for 100 shipped for 100.

I don't like to say the shipping cost!

I took a huge gamble and came out ahead.

Still technically $100! ;) we don't talk about shipping

But yes. USD, shipped from cali -> nc

Well we're about even. I spent $200 on my IIe with 2x Disk II and Apple mono monitor, plus whatever cards were installed. I did spend on gas (Nor Cal to Eugene) but I also spent a couple days visiting with my son and a friend on the way there and back, so it the gas only partially counts. That's what I tell myself. lol.

I think this is about what I spent for my Enhanced IIe back in 2013-2014.

It's nothing special, just the IIe itself (just an ordinary IIe, so no fancy upgrades), CRT, two disk drives, joystick and some disks.

There's an adapter that lets you use almost any joystick (including an SNES controller), but they're about $50 shipped. However, given the price of Apple II joysticks right now, it doesn't seem so bad.

My favorite official Apple compatible joystick has been any of the CH joysticks. I think Apple licensed it for their official Apple joystick. Unfortunately they seem to be running about $40. Vintage Apple stuff is just ridiculously expensive right now.
