You could use the Apple II card on any LCPDS Mac, including the 520.
Is a 520 board an upgrade to the CC or a lateral move? I thought they were the same board. A 550 board was a definite upgrade. I know I've run CC boards in 5x0 machines no problem, so the screen resolution differences weren't an issue...
Anyway, I would certainly expect the Apple II card to run in a CC/520
If what EveryMac tells me is correct, the 520 is much better in that its 32 bit throughout, and the maximum RAM is 36 MB versus 10. It can also accept more VRAM (768k max for the 520 versus 512k max for a stock CC).
So if it has an LC type PDS slot, the AIIe card should work fine? Excellent!
520 is 25 MHz, the 550 is 33 MHz , the 550 was the color classic 2. So not quite. From looking at the two boards physically they look identical. I am guessing its just an ID and crystal difference.
I'm sure with some moding someone like uniserver could probably make the upgrade to 520 boards. A heat sink on the processor and it would be good to go, leading to a 550 upgrade maybe.
Yeah, I just did a comparison on EveryMac, and the 520 and 550 are virtually identical, save for the slower CPU clock and a couple other minor differences (different HDs, etc.). They even have the same model number!
So it looks like My Color Classic will become a slightly slow CCII!
