*Any* source of 2.5" SCSI hard disks?

Hi,

I'm just about at the end of my stack of 2.5" SCSI hard disks - only have one 350MB drive left. Both the hard disks on my Duo 280c and PB170 have needed rapid drive replacement surgery recently, and judging by the noise from others, they'll go too within time.

Does anyone know of a source, at all, of 2.5" hard disks? Even those SCSI-->IDE adapters might do, if under $50 I'd be prepared to buy one. Unfortunately, both parts seem harder and harder to attain now.

Another thought - 2.5" SCSI CF adapter? Holy grail?

I've never seen a 2.5" SCSI-->CF adapter but you never know. Have you considered using a 2.5" SCSI-->IDE adapter in conjunction with a 2.5" IDE--> CF adapter. Height may be a problem when you have stacked adapters, but it is worth investigating. If you buy second hand, you could experiment at little financial risk.

CF is basically IDE, so any SCSI -> CF adaptor would need to convert SCSI to IDE first, and then convert IDE to CF. The only thing i can suggest really is to start buying up big on SCSI only PowerBooks on ebay!

Does anyone have any news about 2.5" SCSI replacement drives?

I've found three devices that are all out of production on the web and emailed each source to see if any are still available.

Does anyone have an alternative in place already?

I have about 10 machines that need work

Hmmmmmm.

I have an external DB-25 SCSI to PCMCIA adapter that will take a PCMCIA to CF sleeve. Maybe we should have a go at cloning it.

So far I have confirmed that 1, possibly two, products are actually available:

A 2.5" SCSI to CF device AUD$98 plus shipping

It would seem that the SCSI-IDE adapters are a little more common. With one of those, and an IDE-CF adapter, you'd be in business. That's my plan for my PowerBook 540c.

I know one Chinese manufacturer provide CF to ide adapter and SCSI to IDE adapters .Their quality is good and price is very cheap.

Well I know you were looking for the IDE > SCSI adapters but if you can't dig them up and are just in need of some replacement drives for your older PowerBooks, eBay has turned up a few hits. Unfortunately those hits were pretty well botched up. The first two links may be worth looking at if you're really desperate for some drives, the other's are just plain ridiculous. Unless you're willing to sell your soul for a 1.2gig drive.
