9600s - or how I conquered the wrong country

It wouldn't be worth a warning, but it sounds like you might be planning to plug the Mach V processor into the non-Kansas logic board.   Probably not a good idea.
I have done this before by putting a 300Mhz 604e from an Kansas 8600 into a 8500. Nothing bad happened, it just doesn't work.

Thanks, everyone for the advice!

I had originally thought about putting the 350mhz card into one of the 300s, generally assuming the 300 would have taxed the motherboard (neglibly) less. I will take a look at part numbers, just so I know what I have but I'll be leaving the 350 on the board it came with.

As for the case swap... I'm not really a fan of the G4 cases... It might be an easier swap, it just has no appeal for me.

True enough on the bus/wear issue.

Another thought regarding putting the 9600 mobo in a G4 case... Seems counter productive to block PCI slots of a design where one of the biggest pros is the PCI expansion.

to block PCI slots

Eww. Mainly I'm not confident enough skill to do that. The G4 into 9600 case consists of modifications that aren't externally visible/don't impact the plastic skin.
