2/4MB HPV Card snagged off the 'Bay . . .

Yeah, I can see that, but with the Radius VideoVision Studio card in there I'm set for A/V.

With the Thunder IV GX-1600 in there I'm set for primary display and MoBo Video is almost good enough for a secondary display, but the extra room in the 81/110 case for hacking in the the HPV card above the NuBus cards forces me to go whole hawg. I'll be using the MoBo driving the 21" Portrait as a tertiary display with the VideoVision Studio driving the fourth of the 21"-22" CRTs in the murder's row setup.

With the JackHammer/1600 combo in the 81/110, it meets the System 100 hardware spec, so everything else is A/V/Graphics gravy. :)

Have you got a G-3 in the BlackBird?

Yep, plus full RAM and a 24x CD-ROM. I'm going to have to bench the A/V card versus the 24XK I have to see what I like better for display, though.

I don't have one..... :(

Seems like I do have a bunch of the 1/2MB ones and the A/V models which are much more common.

I've got a nice stack or the 1/2 variety as well, but just a couple of the A/V cards.

@ CHC: Unless you're going for Two Page Pixel Paradise, the PDS card in going to win, especially at gaming resolutions. ;)

None of my apps are particularly RAM intensive, but I can't imagine forgoing a trip to trag's trading post to better the 32MB that's been in there since the day I schlepped the 81/110 to the shop. ;D

You never know, Photoshop was in the stock installation on the Radius System 100. }:)

Nice conquest.

Man, those have gotten expensive. You used to be able to almost find them lying in ditches next to the road. I think Goodwill had a bunch of them in their Mac Vid Card bin many years ago before they stopped putting out anything interesting.

Of course, that was like ten years ago.

THX, trag. By looking up your explanations in the original discussion (somewhere, I searched it) I was sure of what I was getting for the offer I was making.

$50.00 + $11.95 for USPS 1st Class is still a little rich for me, but I really want to get at least one project finished! :I

You've got the RAM available for this one, right?

Um, no, not for those. However, I think it's pretty standard Apple VRAM. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same kind of stuff that works in the Q605. But you should double check that.

I actually meant your stock of 32MB, 72 pin (?) SIMMs, I was hoping they'd be the type I need to beef up the 81/110's 32MB config.

Can the 2/4MB cards run in 3MB mode using the 256MB VRAM SIMMs from the lesser HPV Cards?

The card arrived today and works just fine . . . with just 2MB of soldered on VRAM . . .

. . . and every VRAM SIMM I've pulled from every slot I can get at has the dreaded "128" in the designation of both chips.

Heck, I set up the Quadra 950 and it booted like a champ, but the 256 colors at 2-pages says no go . . .

. . . at least I didn't take the thing apart! ::)

But it looks like I'm not done paying for this thing. :p

If it's the Power Computing Card w/both Mac & VGA connectors, it's the 2/4 version for sure. There's another thread where trag explained the finer points.

It looks like four matched 512k SIMMs will likely cost something like a buck and change less than the card! :-/

Try contacting Herb Johnson. He might be able to set you up at a better price. The offerings on Ebay are awfully thin right now. Jeeze. It wasn't that long ago I bought pairs and sets of four for a price that was clearly designed to just make it worth putting the stuff in a box. Definitely under $20. Oh well. Even if Herb has it, it will still be $40 plus shipping, which I guess is pretty close to what you spent on the card.

Herb doesn't have a slick interface, but he's been selling stuff to us collectors for years. I've had good dealings with him as have others.

What's the best way of telling the 1/2MB and 2/4MB versions apart?
For the Apple cards, I do not know of a simple way. One should be able to tell from the part numbers on the on-board VRAM chips.

I actually meant your stock of 32MB, 72 pin (?) SIMMs, I was hoping they'd be the type I need to beef up the 81/110's 32MB config.
Oh. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I think I answered this in PM a few days ago, but in case the old wetware is imagining things again...

Yes, I have a near infinite supply of 32 MB 72 pin SIMMs and they are exactly the right memory for maxing out your 8100. They're still $3 each plus $3 shipping. So one SIMM is $6 shipped. Ten SIMMs are $33 shipped.

If I PM'ed you a few days ago, I think I rambled on about 64MB and 128MB SIMMs. The 8100 can't use them, so in the case of the 8100, the 32MB SIMM actually is the maximum choice. Oh, the 8100 will work with 64/128 MB SIMMs, but it treats them as 1/4 the capacity.

Awesome news then, maxification will commence very soon. The best pricing I saw on what would be a matched set of 512k VRAM SIMMs was $15 ea. shipped. I'll ask about combined shipping and a discount for a four SIMM deal, but I'm not holding my breath. One of my buddies here said he might be able to come up with something with a bit less impact on the toy budget.

If it were in any other case, I wouldn't care about mismatched appearances, but that card carrier and the VRAM popping through the hatch in it are the very first things visible when opening up the side door. The assy. is mounted parallel to the MoBo, in the cavity above what remains three unobstructed/usable NuBus Slots . . .

. . . I just LOVE this big 'ole Radius 81/110 case! [:D] ]'>
