1400c 12x CD Unit Repair

I heard somewhere that the 12x cd unit for the 1400 can be replaced with a generic TEAC 24x drive; the faceplate from the old 12x unit can be transferred. Is this valid? My 12x unit is completely dead.

... I did the same with my 1400c and its been great. The TEAC CD-224E drive was a really common model in PC notebooks of the same era; I recall ripping mine from a Toshiba Pentium 1 laptop. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding one.
