Using L2 cache slot for memory...

That maybe a better solution, I don't know the speed of that cache slot on the 6500, or how many PCI slots it has. The limitation of the Sonnet 7200 card was the 33Mhz max PCI that never really got near 133MB/s anyways. Then you would have whatever space limitations of the PCI slot area in the...

Using L2 cache slot for memory...

It was interesting that Sonnet was able to put RAM slots on the G3/G4 PM7200 PCI slot upgrade cards, I know Amiga folks use those as upgrades for there machines too. So something similar could likely be done with the 6500.

    ROM Simm Programmer

I think the ROM SIMMs for the PM8600/9600 Kansas Boards and the Beige G3 are electronically the same. Looks like pretty simple circuitry, if someone could work us up a custom clone board.

    You know, somebody should........

I looked at the Biege board I have some time ago and I think I spotted the oscillator that drives the PCI clock, and some other stuff. Replacing the oscillator with a 33MHz part should run the PCI Bus at 66MHz, but then we need a 100MHz rated XPC106 to have any hope of running the systems bus...

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

This must explain why R140-R138 are in test mode on the main logic board, the daughter card is setup to set the bus?

Get an old Mac on the web?

Downloads are an issue too, but just for getting on the web it's pretty good for basically zero configuration. On my M2 Mac emulation of the Q800 in 68k is ridiculously fast. I just wanted to check it out because I was going to build one of those 3D printed 40% scale Mac Plus that has a...

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

Sorry, I was carrying on in 2 threads about this and lost sight of the fact we were talking early iMac. I have both ZIF Macs and early iMacs, all using the MPC106. My interests is pushing PCI, but G4 CPU's are needed for that. Great points tho, I learn a lot, thanks.

Did I break it? I think I broke it. I blame the Chiefs

That's the thing about teams that can run and pass, either you can stop one or the other, but not both. They stopped Barkley, but Hurts threw over the top, just about any time he wanted to or he just took off and ran himself. The Chiefs defense was guessing and always behind what the Eagles...

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

The the motherboard supply 3.3v to the L2 Bus interface via the ZIF socket? So that the voltage would have to be stepped down on the daughter card? Are not the ZIF cards that use SEC L2 RAM 2.5v?
  10. D

    You know, somebody should........

Seems to me somebody already figured this out, as the 3.3v L2 Memory G3 ZIFs seem to sell for $20-25, even the 400MHz rated CPU's, the the ones with SEC L2 RAM sell for $55-$100. The Sonnet 500MHz G4( 7410 ) ZIF sold for $128.50, so the $30-$100 for a compatible ZIF card makes margins awful...

    You know, somebody should........

I mean I could be wrong, but it looks like the Apple OEM 300/+MHz G3 ZIFs use KM736V689A and that is 2.5v, no? The 400Mhz G3 ZIF seems to use mcm69p737tq3.0 and that is 3.3v.

    You know, somebody should........

I don't know, the 333Mhz and beyond Apple OEM G3 ZIF CPU's likely use the MPC750P CPU, the low power version. There was an addendum to the MPC750 data sheet that lists the recommend L2 Bus interface voltage of 2.5v for the 750P CPU's. Has anyone ever measured the voltage of the L2 on the...

Did anyone else notice the text for the SiL3112 in here?

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

So no MPC750 based ZIF is going to work without some means of lowing the voltage to the L2, or just removing it? Would some type of imposer board fixed to the L2 memory SM that supplies the correct voltage to the new L2 Memory on top of the imposer work?

    You know, somebody should........

So all the Apple OEM ZIF's (750) (7400) are feed 3.3v to the L2 cache?

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

I'm thinking it's going to be on the main logic board. If three of us don't see it, that's likely where it is.

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

I think I need to remove R138+R139 and place one on R140? Anyone spot R139? I don't see it, R140 is on the XPC106 side, and R138 is on the MPC750 side.

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

My Beige seems stable at 70MHz Bus and 35 PCI, what would I need to move to get that on my spare iMac card? I'll risk than I can do 280MHz on the CPU Rev B iMac.

iMac G3 Rev A-D FSB bus overclock

Thanks I did not realize the Cache ran at a different voltage, I guess I better bid on the Sonnet 450 OCed to 500 tonight, but there are 3 bids and 23 watchers, so I bet I'll get out priced. Not paying that much for an OC'ed part, I don't care how rare they are. But we'll know what it sells...

Let's see your best disk speeds( PPC )(68k)

If one day you fell like it, you could also add a move to VRAM from RAM, pretty soon you'll have a pretty complete benchmarking tool! Throughput moved data CPU/FPU/AltiVec/CopyBits to the PCI or AGP card, I don't think it was ever updated for OS X, so it might be nice to clone that...
