I also bought this book back in July and really liked it! I'm a medium format photography fan and when I spotted his pic on the back I was happy all around. That's a great medium format shot and the rest of the book looks fantastic as well. Here's a scan of the front and back of the book...
Your advice was spot on! I removed the battery and actually booted without it once and then put the battery back in and booted again. It booted fine both times. This one has a nice bright strong screen and 64mb of RAM! Sweet.

I'm quoting JDW from an older post he had on AppleFritter:
"I have also read about replacing the bourns chip (RP2), but I don't have one handy and I honestly do not see the logic behind that either. Looking at the schematic of that area, you can see that bourns chip is simply filtering the...
I'm wondering if I'm out of luck on this SE/30. It's a liberation that I knew didn't work but I thought I'd try my luck anyway. The great SE/30 repair reference (http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~shamada/fullmac/repairEng.html#SimasiMac) points to the "network filter" but says it's hard to find a...
Would anyone be willing to work on cap replacement on Mac Plus analog boards? If not I may just have to teach myself how to fix these things and start a service of my own. I love my Mac Plus when I can get video out of it.
For those bidding on this Mac - it isn't a Hyperdrive. I asked the seller for a close-up of the front and it's actually the Macintosh badge from the back of the machine.
I don't think that's a Hyperdrive 512k but if it is the Hyperdrive is probably still in there - it'd be way more effort to remove one than to leave it in. I have a Plus with a Hyperdrive 2000 that still spins and a 512k with a Hyperdrive. I'm having a little trouble with that machine but the...
Ha ha, well congrats! *Golf claps* I'm glad you've got a bootable HD in your SE now. If you happen to need another set of disks just let me know and I can make them for you.
So besides a fan, what's next for this little SE? There's a ton of software to pick over and try out.
Apostrophe, there are about a hundred ways to skin this cat but you don't have to have the Hard Disk SC setup on the boot disk. You can eject the boot disk once it's booted and insert the Hard Disk setup disk. You'll have to swap the disks a few times but you'll be okay.
No, it isn't my listing but I got a chuckle out of it.

I've got a dead Duo 270c and I suspect the PRAM battery. An on-line source calls it a 6 volt battery but that seems kinda high. Has anyone bought one, preferable in the States? If so, where from?
Although the website isn't really news I will say I'd love to have an Apple Portrait Display. I've seen photos but I've never seen one for sale or an auction for one. I'm sure they've shown up on eBay...but not while I was looking.
Very nice! My GE has been a great performer after being liberated three years ago. I didn't realize the PSU mod was that easy! That's got me thinking. I couldn't really do anything else with my GE without a new PSU.
EDIT: Oh, and I'm pretty convinced eBay is a great stage for wrong doing...
More people will chime in but I believe there was an upgrade kit that involved more than just a drive swap. I don't believe it's possible to just switch the drives.
Wow, it might be worth while to create a "I just bought an SE off eBay" site to help people.
You would do well to start with a fresh set of 6.0.8 floppy disks. PM me and I'll send you some. From there you can try an install and see if it recognizes the internal hard drive. If not, I have one...
