Power Mac G4 "Gigabit Ethernet" (and extras)

This is a sub-conquest. The shell of the system has been lying around for quite some time since the Sawtooth logic board failed.

Today the Gigabit Ethernet board arrived. With some quick modifications to the PSU (relocation of the 5v trickle line to the 28v line) the machine booted up to a flashing disk icon. All I know so far is that the CPU is a 400mhz out of the Sawtooth. All the other components, I haven't bothered to read the labels.

I am a little disappointed though. The board which was listed in "perfect working order" seems to have a burn mark on the back where a component has exploded. You can tell this is the case as it is one in a row of three, there are burn marks on the board, 2 solder points left and a deep burn through the logic board thankfully not affecting nearby traces.

The machine will need further testing. If it is just a case of no firewire or something rather i'll let it slide and sell the machine as-is. If it's the ATA controller, on the other hand, i'll be sure to phone the distributor who sold the board.

It also has a few pieces missing, the optical drive carrier is missing, along with the screws for the fan and fan surround. If I can find those, it should be good to go. Almost certain I have spares around here.

As with any conquest, this needs photos. So here they are.

The Tower!
- Inside the Case, IncompleteAlso picked up a power supply for my old Toshiba Satellite 440CDT, which now works great, and a Pentium 3 1.0GHz CPU module.

Very nice! My GE has been a great performer after being liberated three years ago. I didn't realize the PSU mod was that easy! That's got me thinking. I couldn't really do anything else with my GE without a new PSU.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm pretty convinced eBay is a great stage for wrong doing with no strings attached. I can't tell you the amount of money I've wasted on bad auctions. Especially with computers, I think some people expect you to not know what you're looking at when you get it.
