its a 68LC040... and i was reading and with an 68LC i can't run NetBSD
Which Linux are you using?

I replaced the 68LC040 in my Quadra 605 with a full 68040.

The mac68k section of the NetBSD site doesn't get updated much. Soft-float builds of NetBSD have existed for awhile now. It will be slower, but you can run on an LC040.

One of the good tricks with NetBSD is it's ability to run as a netboot.

I've run both an old Sun350 using bootp and a 386 using PXE in a netboot configuration so you can get round the chicken and egg problem of getting a machine working.
