Titanium 1GHz and OS9

I am now the owner of a 1GHz TiBook.

What I'm curious about is, it has a 1GHz G4 and can boot into OS9 (pretty nifty), although I hadn't played much around in OS9 (just got it and really am so used to OSX that my most of my work resides in OSX specific apps...like IWork and such).

Does anyone have older G4's at 1GHz in OS9, if so, does it fly? Do all apps "fly"? I haven't used OS9 in YEARS and find myself a newbie again!

i don't have a laptop but i can tell you that if you are only going to do text editing or things like that, on my 450mhz G4 desktop OS 9 is very fast for things like that.....also for games to..........

OS 9 on my 1.25GHz MDD dual G4 screams, even though it is effectively only using one CPU under OS 9.

OS9 flies on a G4. The only thing that's slow is building the file system when it boots if you have a lot of files. I have one G4 with a couple of 1 TB drives and OS X installed also. With nearly a million files to index at boot OS 9 takes a couple of minutes to finish building the desktop. OS X saves the cached file system to disk and reloads it at boot, so it comes up much more quickly.

I just bought a "new" (for me!) 1 GHz TiBook this month, and yes, it screams in OS 9. It will only run a later version of 9.2.2. And as for speed of indexing files, it is not too bad - it is not like I rebuild my desktop file all that often in regular use! This is basically the fastest stock OS 9 laptop that there is. Replacing the original hard drive made a huge difference, file transfers are now much faster, and the thing is now nearly silent when it runs. I don't remember the specs but its a 160 GB Seagate. So far it is even more responsive than my dual 1.42GHz G4 which is technically faster, with respect to pure number crunching. It has lived up to the hype and I absolutely love it. I am going to buy a few more TiBook DVIs for spares and parts when I can, so that I always have one!

I'd love to get my hands on that model. I have always wanted a G4 powerbook even when I did own a iBook. I would like something faster than my upgraded Pismo but alas they are still quite expensive even for the 400mhz G4 models. I am considering trading a Mini G4 for one if someone local is willing or selling it on ebay. It is rather surprising what a G4 Mini still goes for on ebay.

I managed to land a gigger, though I'm "still" using my 867MHz G4 for most of my portable OS 9 needs. The 1400, bless its heart, just doesn't have the battery life to take it on the road anymore.

Even the 867 absolutely wallops OS 9 apps. And the screen is really nice.
