TAM SSD long wait on Happy Mac

I've got an odd question... ever since I installed an SSD (SATA SSD with an IDE adapter) in my TAM, booting takes a long time time. Sitting on the happy mac gray screen for roughly 2-3 minutes. Once up and running, everything is snappy. Swapping back in the HD (which was cloned) and the happy mac screen is there for sub 20 seconds.

Yesterday I discovered if I have a CD In the drive, booting off the SSD doesn't sit on the happy mac screen nearly as long.

Not a big deal, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what could be causing it. I have startup memory checks disabled - I don't know of anything that occurs that early in the boot process.

Have you recently selected the disk in Startup Disk? It sounds like it is looking for another, no longer connected, drive or System Folder.

Been there, same delays noted on my TAM, tried many different SSDs and adapters and eventually got to the stage after a few days where it simply wasn’t reliable. Format the drive with SilverLining to get rid of the delay.

I ended up going back to a 120GB 5400RPM drive, I’ve tried all other methods of solid state but the TAM doesn’t like. Next call is an IDE to SD (not CF) adapter but don’t see it getting far.

This is the PATA SSD that my TAM has been perfectly happy with. It's a little on the spendy side, but no issues and no boot delays.

I'm new here but wanted to thank you for that tip. I was reluctant to drop that much coin (per GB), especially untested in a TAM.

I had tried *many* other CF adapters with no success, but that Transcend finally did the trick! Thanks

Kingspec also produces PATA SSDs in the size of 16, 32, 64, 128 or even 256 GB, they can be found on ebay with free shipping.

Has someone tried these in the TAM? I used Kingspec SSSDs in the past in some Windows Notebooks. I suppose 64 or 128 GB could be a good deal and would work? Not sure about the 256 GB version, the drives use nore reliable MLC cells.

Best option I’ve found after many different SSD options is a new 64-128GB Sandisk Extreme CF and adapter. No quirks, just works
