I hate to have to ask but here goes,

I have spent many hours of googling and trying several programs on a mac and pc with no luck. I've been trying to get some disk images restored to disks on my IIgs I have tried everything I can think of so I thought I would ask here. the files I have are in 2mg format and They are on my macbook pro, I also have shared files on my mac classic that I can access from my gs. in addition I have been using all the windows programs I can find on my old Pentium 1 with windows 98. I was also thinking of using an emulator to copy to a usable disk format. any tips would help -thanks

I'd say transfer the images to the Classic and then either use DiskMaker 8 on the IIgs or DiskDup+ on the Classic to create the disks. Not sure if DiskDup+ handles 2mg format, so you might have to convert to img first.

I was having trouble getting ether of them to transfer right. Let me see if it work transfer better without using the pc (i think it is making the file formats show up funny on the classic)

I found a disk copy image but its compressed as blank_dimg.bin (I assume blank.dimg compressed) but stuffit and every other tool I use fails. I will keep trying stuff.

What you need to do is go here: http://adtpro.sourceforge.net/ and download ADTPro. Read everything on the webpage and it will tell you exactly what you need to hook either your Mac or PC up to your GS and begin transferring disk images to the GS to real disks again.

This is by far the best and easiest program I've seen for turning Apple II disk images back into real disks.

I looked in to getting that before but I have no way to interface it with my macbook pro and no cables for my pc. I hate that I have two disk images but only emulators can read them I even made copies on the emulators and still no luck. well I will keep trying.

My two cents: all you need is a pc and an old mac.

1) Use Ciderpress 3.0 to convert your 2mg to sdk on your pc.

http://ciderpress.sourceforge.net//index.htm

2) Use Transmac 6.0 or 7.0 on your pc to format some double density 1.44 disk in HFS format and put your sdk files into them.

3) Now turn on your Macintosh classic and transfer your SDK files from 1.44 hfs disks into its hard drive.

4) Use "prodos extension" so your classic will know how to format, read and write Prodos disks. Now format some 800 k prodos disks with your mac.

5) Put your SDK files onto a prodos 800k and let the IIGS deshrink them with GSshrink it and write real disks you'r searching for.

I guess you have or at least you know how to obtain GS shirink it.

If you want i could provide you a zip version that doesn't require attribute change to be opened under GSOS.

Thank you most of that I have tried (transmac did not work but macdisk did) but I seemed to have overlooked an important step the prodos extension. Thank you for pointing that out. I tried to get the LC IIe software but It would not work. I have moved to my g3 powerbook since it has ethernet and I can use apple share (so I can stop wasting cd moving info around)

nevermind I got the pro dos extension! still can not get any of the disk images in the right format for disk copy.

UPDATE! I guess I need to figure out how to change (in system 7.1) the default application for the disk images to disk copy document from the just document it is now so that disk copy will open them (they are in disk copy format) diskdup+ will not open them either.

well I got it into disk copy 4.2 format but my mac only sees it as a document and will not open it as a maser disk :( i will keep trying.

UPDATE! I got it to work by making a 4.2 disk copy image on my classic transferring it back to my MBP then mounting it on a IIgs emulator restoring the other image to it then sending it back to the classic then it knew it was a disk copy image! thank you everyone for your help.
