Star Trek After Dark Does Not Work - Mac OS 8.1

Tried installing my original boxed copy of Star Trek - TOS After Dark on my IIfx running OS 8.1.

The installation itself went fine. However, the control panel for After Dark doesn't seem to do anything (can't switch it on or off/can't program the screensaver to activate at a desired time/can't run any demos of the screensavers including the default Starry Night).

This software works perfectly in System 6 and 7.1. Is it too old to work properly in OS 8.1? It's from 1992.

You may need to install it with a newer version of the Afterdark software. I have it running on one of my systems in 8.1 as part of an Afterdark 4.0 install currently.

I disagree with shadedream. I have After Dark 4 and it does not work with MacOS8 or 8.1 on 68K based Macs.

I suggest reverting to System 7.6.1 - the latest OS compatible with After Dark. Star Trek TOS After Dark installs and work fine with After Dark 4.

I have After Dark 3 or 4 (I forget which) working on 8.6 fine on my PTPro. I regularly run ST:TNG on there…granted that’s from a later date, but After Dark itself should work just fine. I can check the version when I get home.

Yeah I think the TNG one is from '94. I don't have that one, but I doubt it should make much of a difference.

I also have the Disney release from '93.

Were there any other screensaver programs for 8.1?

Hmm I guess 4 could have issues with 68k? but that would seem to odd to me. I'm running 4 via 8.1 on my Quadra 700 with a 601 card.

Afterdark 3 only requires a 68020, so it should work fine assuming it works in 8. I haven't tried it as I don't typically install 8 on anything below an 040 or early PPC system.
