Some Games Crashing on Centris 610

Having unboxed my old Centris 610, and attempting to play some games on it, I get crashes when trying to play old Black and White games like "Dark Castle" or "Ancient Art of War", even though my Centris 610 has a videocard that supports black-and-white display mode. If I uninstalled System 7 and went back to System 6 on the Centris, then would the old games work? Is there any way to set up a "dual boot" system so that I could choose which System to boot into, to have the option of easily accessing software for both?

Thanks!

System 6 isn't compatible with any Centrises. The Centris 610 requires System 7.1 (with System Enabler 040 v1.0) or later.

Most games that "require" System 6 will run fine under System 7. What version are you running currently? If you're not, I'd suggest popping 7.0.1 on there to see if that helps at all. That's a good little OS with alot of its older compatibility still intact.

Will 7.0.1 run on a Centris? I thought that the 610 needed 7.1 with its enabler as a bare minimum.

Try going into the "Memory" control panel and switching the address mode to 24-bit. You will need to re-start for the change to take place.

Most B&W games are designed to run on 24 bit machines and can sometimes crash when run under 32-bit addressing.
